Going gold, going bold. Meet the INCREDIBLE women of #TheGoldenBachelor season 2, premiering September 24 on ABC. Stream on Hulu!
“The Golden Bachelor†is adding a touch of crimson this season.
Two Alabama women - one from Huntsville, the other from Birmingham - are among the 23 ladies looking for love on Season 2 of the reality show. The bachelor at the center of it all is 66-year-old Mel Owens, an NFL veteran who played for the Rams before becoming a lawyer.
But more later on the guy who said he . Let’s get to our Alabama roses who you can start watching at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 on WAAY.
Representing Huntsville is Monica B., a 62-year-old flight attendant. She likes feeding ducks with her granddaughter, spending time in Martha’s Vineyard, and drinking wine (a dry white or a full-bodied red if you’re ordering for her).
The show describes Monica B. (Yes, she has a last name but ABC doesn’t reveal those) as: “Monica B. is ready for love to take flight. This beautiful flight attendant is resilient, hardworking, and looking for her soulmate. After experiencing many ups and downs in life, Monica B. focused on raising her kids and pursuing her career. She is a proud grandma to four grandchildren and loves to spend her time at farmers markets, going out to breakfast, and doing yoga in the park. Now, after living out her passion of traveling for over 40 years, Monica B. is ready to hang up her flight attendant wings and pick up a lifelong partner with whom she can explore the world. Finding a person of faith who is kind is very important to her, as well as having a sense of humor. Let’s see if Monica B. and Mel’s connection takes off!â€
And Monica B. isn’t the only Monica from Alabama competing.
That’s right, representing Birmingham is Monica P., a 60-year-old cosmetic dentist. She can ride a skateboard and loves big hair and crocheting.
The show describes Monica P. like this: “Monica P. is 100% wife material. The cosmetic dentist has a career and family she’s very proud of and is looking forward to finding a man with whom to share her wonderful life. Monica P. is hoping to meet a guy who can match her warmth, energy and zest for life. While she may look all glammed up on the outside, Monica P. is a self-proclaimed tomboy at heart. When she’s not working or spending time with her sons, Monica P. loves a night of karaoke, playing board games, and going to Pilates daily. Her idea of a perfect date is a romantic dinner followed by a night out dancing, so let’s hope Mel has his dancing shoes ready. Can’t wait to see if these two hit it off.â€

Owens took a beating on social media earlier this year when he said he would eliminate any ladies from the show who were 60 or older. .
(And surely it’s a coincidence only one of the ladies on the show is younger than 60. Right?)
Here’s what ABC says about him:
“Born and raised in a close-knit Midwestern family in Detroit, Owens’ athleticism shone through from an early age. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he was selected as the ninth overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft by the LA Rams. Following his retirement from football, Owens transitioned into a career in law and moved to Orange County, California, dedicating himself to helping others – particularly those seeking justice for sports-related injuries. It was during this time that he met his first love, and together they had two sons. While life took an unexpected turn with the passing of his father and the end of his marriage, Owens channeled his energy into being the best father he could be, focusing on raising his sons and coaching their extracurricular sports teams. Now, after several years as a devoted dad, Owens is ready to rediscover a love rooted in the simple joys of companionship — sharing life’s everyday moments, making plans for the future, and growing stronger together as a couple. As the Golden Bachelor, he’s eager to meet someone who shares this vision and finally find that perfect teammate he’s been waiting for in his golden years.â€
